Finding My New Center of Gravity
When you turn 50 there is an instinct to categorize life as “before 50” and “after 50.” As I’ve been reflecting on the first half of my life and try to envision what the next half could bring, I realize that I need to find a new center of gravity. One that doesn’t revolve completely around children and my career.
Uncomfortable Fun
Kayaking makes me uncomfortable, and I love it. Over the last year, I’ve had the very good fortune to kayak 1,000 miles in three very different geographies: Green Lake, Wisconsin; the Florida Atlantic coast; and most recently the Pacific ocean off Mexico. Considering how tumultuous 2020 was, my year of kayaking was also an exercise in gratitude.
My New Social Network
As time slowed down during the pandemic, I became a more conscious consumer of where to spend my energy. I had been off Facebook already for a while, moving my social posts and connections to Instagram, but more and more, Strava has become my social network of choice.
